FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: “NIGHT WATER” WRITER ANNOUNCES END TO PEACOCK PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION
NEW YORK—Newsletter writer Adam Cecil announced today that he had completed the cancellation process for Peacock Premium, the American streaming service owned by NBCUniversal, and that he would officially lose access to the streaming service at the end of the current billing period.
“We’re canceling pretty much all of our subscriptions before we head to the UK this month,” says Cecil, who recently took an extended break from his newsletter while he prepared for the international move.
Initially only intending to subscribe for one month to watch the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Cecil continually forgot to cancel the service, even as his subscription celebrated its sixth-month and one-year anniversaries. Cecil has canceled the subscription just shy of the two year mark.
“Peacock was always good for something—The Office, Below Deck, international soccer coverage.” The subscription was most recently used to watch the Rugby World Cup. “Bit odd because they didn’t have halftime commentary. They just showed bits of the game from five or six different camera angles, sometimes in slow motion, in complete silence.”
Initially $4.99 per month, Peacock raised its price to $5.99 this past August. “Compared to the constant price increases we were seeing from Hulu with Live TV, a dollar was nothing,” Cecil says.
While Peacock is available to UK customers through partnerships with Sky TV and NOW, Cecil isn’t making any promises. “They’ve got all sorts of weird stuff on the ‘telly’ over there. They have a show where you watch other people watching TV. I’ve got to fully immerse myself in their culture before I fall back on old favorites.”
Cecil would not comment on if he intended to finally watch the Peacock Premium exclusive curling documentary American Rock Stars before his access was officially cut off.
