I somewhat accidentally made the last two weeks of Night Water all about food (fake chicken tenders and boxed mac and alt-cheese, if you missed them), so I figured I should go for the hat-trick and get some answers to a truly important question: what is your favorite late night snack?
Hop into the comments and let the world know.
This Night Water Cooler is a relic from Night Water's days on Substack, and the original comments are stuck over there. Luckily, copy and paste exists. Here's a selection of midnight snacks from the original thread:
Big fan of what my family calls "bed lunch," or a bowl of cereal just before bedtime.
(follow-up—top 3 cereals?): Tough call - whatever is on hand will do! Let's go with Honey Bunches of Oats, Golden Grahams, and something classic like Frosted Flakes. - Jacquelyn
If I’m out, McDonald’s. If I’m home, ice cream.
(follow-up—McDonald's order?): hamburger, small fry and a coke. The caffeine at that hour at my age is riskier than attempting to summit Everest. - Kate
Skittles, or maybe some Bagel Bites. Harry says nachos (shredded cheese on some kind of tortilla chips, poorly assembled, stop 10 seconds too early because you're eager)...I can't say I disagree with that. - Sami
Soft and warm noods always do it for me in the middle of a long night. Ramen noodles that is. - Stu
Just a classic peanut butter and grape jam sandwich on wheat with a mug of milk on the side. Sandwich cut diagonally. Hits so good between 7 and 9. - Jeff
popcorn and m&ms - Alyssa
Full fat yoghurt with sugar. Or a lightly toasted old bread with chunks of cold butter. - Nothing Important
kebab with a side of fries and a fun drink. maybe cooper is nearby sleeping even though there’s an entire hot order sitting in front of him. maybe you eat in silence and enjoy it. that’s fine. the second you’re done you just need to get horizontal on the couch you’re eating it on and you’ll be asleep in no time. there’s almost nothing in life worth planning. there’s almost nothing that tastes as good as kebab after a certain hour with a friend within an arms length. - Patrick
a crispy high life with a dollop of aperol usually hits the spot for me - Tyler
Two slices of sourdough toast, get some vegan butter on there, maybe if the vibes are right, I’ll put a small amount of marmite on too - Chloe
A little 2am banana hits the spot bud, makes the rest of your dreams weird - Noah
